Keystone keeps streak alive, trounces Brookside

- By Jarad Blackford

The Keystone Wildcats winning streak continued as they feasted on the Brookside Cardinals with a one-sided ground attack for a 46-0 victory to move to 3-4 on Oct 5.

The Wildcats pounced early with a first play touchdown via a 68-yard run from junior Jacob Shackleford.

The Wildcats’ fast scoring offense didn’t stop there, as they added another rushing touchdown from junior Dylan Naylor from a yard out one yard, and a two-play drive that was capped off with a 74-yard touchdown pass to senior Mike Mileski from Shackleford for a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.

Keystone stuck quickly in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Naylor. Brookside however was able to slow down some of the bleeding in the second quarter and had some decent long dives that were ended by critical penalties that killed all momentum the Cardinals had.

It was more of the same from there as the Wildcats scored on the opening drive of the second half to take a 40-0 lead over the Cardinals. Brookside tried a different approach

in the second half with an air attack that helped sustain longer drives, but dropped passes, penalties and two interceptions allowed one last rushing touchdown from Jacob Shackleford to take a commanding 46-0 lead.

They said it

KEYSTONE COACH DON GRISWOLD » “Ground and pound was the plan all week. Land the first punch, a second, a third, a fourth, a fifth, and take away any chance of a upset for tonight . ... Jacob Shackleford and Dylan Naylor have been dynamic all year long even going back to the first four losses at the beginning of the season. They are amazing young men. They are fast, they are great leaders.”
