Library gets kids up and moving with Toddler Tales
Young children were encouraged to move and participate Oct. 4 during Toddler Tales at the Lorain Public Library System Avon Branch Library, 37485 Harvest Drive.
Kristina Hudson, a library associate for the branch, organized story time.
“You need to get these young children up and moving, or you will lose them,” Hudson said. “I like to keep that energy up and get them active.”
Hudson said she mixes in the story with the movements.
“You need to get the story in,” she said. “It’s important for children to be read to. They pick up reading skills from watching others.
“We are, however talking about 2- and 3-years-olds, so you need to have the action. The key is tying it together to make the movements match what is being read.”
Hudson said theme of this program was transportation.
“I read stories about buses and being on the move,” she said. “Children are interested in that stuff, and the motion of a vehicles translates to the story time very well.”
Hudson said the story times will incorporate more seasonal themes.
“We obviously have a big one for Halloween,” she said. “Kids are encouraged to show up in their costumes and there will be plenty of candy to pass out as well.”
Story times will begin at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 30.
“I hope those who are interested will be able to attend,” Hudson said.
Lauren Saccardi, of Avon, brought her daughter to the event,
“This was really well done,” Saccardi said. “My daughter, Sophia, was having a great time. She learns a lot during these, so the educational factor is important.
“Our family just moved to Avon, and I’m loving what the city has to offer.”
Chris Rabjohn of Vermilion was impressed with the event.
“(Hudson) does a great job of getting the kids involved,” Rabjohn said. “They really get into it, and the event gives my grandson something to do.”
