Senior Living Fair at Lorain County JVS builds connections
The 13th Annual Senior Living Fair was held at Lorain County JVS in Oberlin on Oct. 6.
The fair, sponsored by Friends of Senior Living in partnership with Lorain County JVS and others brings together local organizations and service providers in addressing the unique needs of Lorain County’s senior population.
Vendors in attendance provided information and demonstrations focusing on healthy living.
Friends of Senior Citizens a local non-profit whose mission is supporting senior citizens in southern Lorain County.
President Bernie Nierode said the fair started 13 years ago upon a few residents recognizing the need in Lorain County townships and more rural areas to provide access to more services.

“This is all promoted through Friends of Senior Citizens and in conjunction with the southern satellite office that we have with the Lorain County Office on Aging. We are here every year and the JVS have been very kind to host it here,” Priebe said.
“And it has something for everyone whether you’re on Medicare or not or if you need help there’s a vendor here that you can look into and there’s a lot of free things as well,” Priebe added.
The Senior Living Fair also provides opportunities for JVS students to connect with seniors, with JVS being a partner since the beginning.
“We’ve hosted this fair for 13 years. It’s a very important part of our high school community, having our students involved Many of our career tech programs are allied health science students working with the hospitals, the hospice programs and other assisted living programs in Lorain County,” said Jill M. Petitti, Principal of Lorain County JVS .
“Having our students interact with senior citizens, listening to them, helping them and just kind of having conversations with them is always very valuable,” Petitti said.
