Library branch hosts party
The Lorain Public Library System South Lorain Branch, 2121 Homewood Drive, held an event Oct. 10 for young children that organizers say differs from the offerings of other libraries.
“I like to do things differently for the parties,” said Brittney Thomas, librarian at the branch. “I like to do something that is a little nontraditional and that’s evident by today’s ‘Construction Party.’”
Thomas said the difference is in the activities she plans.
“We have different toys, crafts and games that can be played,” she said. “I make sure they align with the theme we have for the day.
“The theme was construction, so I made sure everyone had something to do that broadens their knowledge and allows them to do something interactive. The craft involves making a tool belt of cut-out paper tools and using brown paper for a belt. I also have different trucks and blocks for them to play with if they prefer.”
Thomas said she mixes it up to prevent boredom.
“Young kids need to stay active, so I mix some songs and dances between readings,” she said. “I feel like Beth Benesh, left, of North Ridgeville, works on a craft with 1-year-old son Owen Benesh.
there is enough good activities for them to enjoy.”
Thomas said there is a Halloween-themed party coming up.
“We will have a party focused on monsters for the Oct. 24 session,” she said. “Folks should arrive at 10:30 a.m. to enjoy some seasonal fun. Kids really enjoy
Halloween, so it should be a good time.”
Beth Benesh, from North Ridgeville, said the Oct. 10 event was great.
“My son loves it,” Benesh said. “He loves trucks and loves books. This was the perfect combination of the two.”
Nicki Strichek, a North
Ridgeville resident, said the program was what she was looking for.
“I liked it, the boys had a good time,” Strichek said. “This is our first time coming, and I’m open to coming back in the future.
“The libraries in the area do a really good job with programming.”
