MetroHealth System partners with level III trauma center

- Staff report

Fisher-Titus Medical Center, 272 Benedict Ave. in Norwalk and The MetroHealth System in Cleveland, have announced a new partnership for a Level III Trauma Center.

A MetroHealth team will provide physician and operational leadership at Fisher-Titus in order to co-manage the trauma program as a part of the partnership starting this fall, according to a news release.

In early 2019, specialized trauma surgeons will begin working with FisherTitus physicians and staff, the release said.

“We are excited to partner with this locally and nationally recognized provider of trauma care,” said Dr. Brent Burkey, president of Fisher-Titus Health in a news release. “Through this collaboration, more trauma patients will be able to receive care at Fisher-Titus and remain in our community rather than being referred to another city.”

Fisher-Titus, designated as a Level III Trauma Center in 2009, currently has surgical specialists available 24 hours a day that provide comprehensive care for patients with traumatic injuries and coordinate transfers to higher level trauma facilities when necessary, according to the release.

“We know that patients want to receive care closer to home, and we are proud to bring our expert trauma services to the residents of Norwalk and the surrounding communities,” said Dr. Bernard Boulanger, executive vice president and chief clinical officer at MetroHealth. “This partnership allows patients to remain close to their families as they recover.”
