Narcotics unit’s drug raids prompt charges
Four people are in custody following the execution of two search warrants by the Elyria Police Department Narcotics Unit in collaboration with federal authorities Oct. 17, according to a news release.
At 7 a.m., detectives from the Narcotics Unit, Investigative Unit and officers from the Special Response Team executed two separate warrants while searching for a suspect identified as 29-yearold Leon Robinson of Elyria.
Robinson was taken into custody without incident following the execution of the first warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Furnace Street.
Robinson is charged with two felony counts of possession of drugs, two counts of trafficking in drugs and single felony counts of receiving stolen property and having weapons under disability, and a misdemeanor charge of drug paraphernalia, according to the release.
A 25-year-old female of Elyria who was inside the residence with Robinson was arrested on an active warrant through the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Lorain County Jail.
While searching the Furnace Avenue residence, detectives located a fully loaded AK-47 assault rifle in the trunk of a vehicle parked in the driveway which Robinson admitted ownership, the release said.
Robinson also possessed 2.1 grams of crack cocaine and 50 percocet pills, the release said.
He was transported to Cleveland where he is being held in a federal correctional facility pending a hearing in court.
The search warrant for Robinson was prompted following an indictment by federal authorities on three counts of trafficking in drugs heroin/fentanyl stemming from an investigation by the Narcotics Unit.
An FBI agent assisted detectives in the execution of the warrants, according to the release.
A second search warrant executed at a residence in the 200 block of 13th Street led to the arrest of 38-year-old Lynnea Baker of Elyria.
Baker is charged with felony possession of drugs and a misdemeanor count of drug paraphernalia, police said.
She was transported to the Lorain County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Elyria Municipal Court on Oct. 22 for a preliminary hearing, according to court records.
A 55-year-old male inside the residence at the time of the search warrant execution was arrested on an outstanding warrant through the Parma Police Department.
He was taken into custody and turned over to Parma officers.
The Elyria Police Department is commending the work of its officers in the arrest of Robinson, noting the Furnace Street address was the source of numerous drug complaints over the past few months, according to the release.
The seizure of the AK-47 also removes a dangerous weapon off the street, police said.
