Lorain needs to address smoking issue
I see Avon Lake approved an ordinance restricting tobacco use at all city parks, playgrounds and beaches.
The city of Lorain needs to follow that good example, especially at Black River Landing and Lakeview Park.
There is nothing healthy about standing in a taco or egg roll line at the International Festival with a young woman smoking an 8-inch cigarette while pushing a stroller with twins. Ditto to a guy smoking a big green cigar, smelling up the picnic area.
Worst of all, last year at the festival, a guy was spitting tobacco into an empty plastic beer cup while I was eating a delicious rib dinner.
Avon Lake joins Wellington, Oberlin, Sandusky and North Ridgeville in taking a stand against this very disgusting habit.
Does Lorain always have to be the last to do anything?
These smokers use Black River Landing and Lakeview Beach as their own personal ashtray. Just check Black River Landing after a rock concert. Also, just after the Democratic Labor Party Picnic. A very filthy environment, especially for the younger kids and the older generation.
City council should take this mater up immediately and not throw it down the road, as most legislation that comes out of this council.
Better yet, get those overpaid Lorain County commissioners involved.
The committee meeting scheduled for Sept. 10 has been set back until October.
North Ridgeville has a citywide policy and after Jan. 1, 2019, employees will have to leave city property to use that filthy habit of tobacco.
If you’re not allowed to smoke in bars, why should you be able to use that filthy tobacco at Black River Landing and Lakeview Beach.
This needs to be addressed ASAP before next year’s festivals and concerts. William A. Madanski
