Women’s Fund awards $18,167
Grants help support local women, children
The Women’s Fund, an affiliate fund of the Community Foundation of Lorain County, announced that it awarded $18,167 in grants at the Leadercast-Women event Nov. 1 at the New Russia Township Lodge.
Eleven grants were awarded that give support for women and children in Lorain County, according to a news release from the Community Foundation.
The Women’s Fund sponsored a panel at the Leadercast event with Marcia Ballinger, president of Lorain County Community College, and Carmen Twillie Ambar, president of Oberlin College.
Lorain native Tiffany Tarpley, of WKYC-TV 3, was the panel moderator.
A $2,000 grant was awarded to the MetroHealth Foundation, which supports their Mother and Child Dependency Program and helps Lorain County mothers and their newborns overcome the disease of opioid addiction through psychiatric care, addiction prevention education and continuing care coordination, according to the release.
A $1,500 grant was awarded to Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio to provide camperships to school-age girls so they can experience Girl Scouts’ summer camp and outdoor social and educational activities.
The Women’s Fund was established as a permanent endowment to expand chances and choices for Lorain County women and children through financial and funding equity for projects that may not receive monies from traditional sources of funding.
It supports social, educational and artistic projects by, for, and delivered to women and children to encourage the full participation of women and children in the community. Since its inception in 1991, the Women’s Fund has invested over $175,000 in community grants for women and children in Lorain County, according to the release.
