Local briefs History Museum holds fundraiser

The public is invited to discover new wines and local history at a fundraisin­g event for the Vermilion History Museum, 727 Grand St.

Five red and five white wines “From Around the World” will be featured at a wine tasting from 7-9 p.m., Nov. 10, in the museum.

Attendees may view the original presses, newspapers and more printed by the Vermilion News from 1905 to 1964.

Poppin Around of Vermilion will offer tastings of its gourmet popcorn. There also will be raffles for wine and restaurant gift certificat­es.

Tickets are $25 each and may be purchased in advance by mail at 727 Grand St., Vermilion, OH 44089, or at the door.

Avon school hosts parent seminar

The next Parent Seminar is scheduled for 7 p.m., Nov. 7, in the Media Center of Avon Middle School, 3445 Long Road.

Amanda Divis will speak on the topic of “Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health,” according to a news release.

Materials to be covered include:

• Awareness of the latest cultural trends

• Understand­ing the hidden pressures that children face

• Dealing with anxiety and depression, and what to do

• How to support your child’s emotional struggles

• Alert signs for parents to be aware of

This informativ­e session is about an hour long and free for all to attend. There will be a time for questions and answers, the release stated.

Parent Seminars are provided through a grant from the Avon Schools Educationa­l Endowment Fund.

Elyria Catholic kicks off raffle

Elyria Catholic High School, 725 Gulf Road in Elyria, announced the 25 Days of Christmas Cash Calendar Raffle has begun.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the raffle go directly to the Elyria Catholic students in the form of student scholarshi­ps, according to a news release.

This year’s grand prize is $10,000, and the winner will be announced Dec. 14 during the school-wide winter sports rally, the release said.

Daily winners of $50 or more will be drawn live during the school’s morning broadcast from Nov. 27 through Dec. 21 and posted on the Elyria Catholic and Elyria Catholic Alumni Facebook pages and the school website, the release said.

The cost of a ticket is $25 and can be purchased at the main office. Ohio residents also can purchase raffle tickets online at www.elyriacath­olic. com/raffle.
