PLAYER OF THE YEAR

- — Fuad Shalhout

Cade Gergye Bay, Senior

According to head coach Bobby Dougherty, no Bay player has ever had a 20 goal, 20 assist season. Not only did Cade Gergye become the sole member of the 20-20 club, but he took it a step further to become the inaugural member of Bay’s 30-30 club. Gergye finished the season with 31 goals and 32 assists, the most assists in a single season for the Rockets — which is saying something when the rich history of Bay boys soccer is considered. Gergye also made first team All-Ohio and was named Division II Player of the Year. As the face of the Rockets, Gergye helped Bay advance to a state semifinal and without question left a legacy at Bay that will be hard for anyone to duplicate. And now, Gergye gets to hold the distinct honor of calling himself a two-time Morning Journal boys soccer Player of the Year.

COACH OF THE YEAR Pete Klepek Avon Lake

Avon Lake had its best season in school history going 14-3-1 and advanced to a Division I district semifinal. Breaking through in the fashion that the Shoremen did with a tough schedule and in a tough conference speaks volumes to the job Klepek did in his second season with Avon Lake. Klepek also earned Greater Cleveland Division I Coach of the Year.
