Council submits resignation letter
Amherst City Councilman Joe Miller officially submitted his resignation letter from the legislative arm of the city.
Amherst City Councilman Joe Miller officially submitted his resignation letter from the legislative arm of the city of Amherst.
Miller’s resignation is effective Dec. 31 before he starts his term as state representative for the 56th Ohio Statehouse District.
Clerk of Council Olga Sivinski read Miller’s resignation letter during a Council meeting Nov. 26.
“I feel honored and proud to have served my residents of Amherst for the past six years as an atlarge councilman,” Miller’s resignation letter read. “I look forward to continuing this service as a state representative in January.
“Until then, I look forward to carrying out my duties as councilman for the final meetings of 2018.”
Miller, a Democrat, defeated Republican Ron Weber on Nov. 6.
He will replace termlimited Democrat Dan Ramos.
Miller also shared his thanks during a City Council meeting Nov. 12, as well as spoke on his experiences on Council.
“I still will continue to make the claim that I know we worked sometimes in detriment with each other and fighting for our own battles,” he said. “When I agree with my fellow Council members, I agree that it was in the best interest ... When I disagree, it’s always with that in mind. I hope to bring that down to the statehouse.
“I believe that bipartisanship can work. We are an example of it. We have a pretty bipartisanship mix up here.”
