Christmas in the Village enthralls youngsters
Amherst Historical Society opens Sandstone Village for annual holiday festival
Families experience the holidays as only presented in Sandstone Village with trains, tours and hot cocoa.
Many families took advantage of the mid-60 degree weather Dec. 2 and made their way to an annual Holiday celebration of Christmas in the Village in Amherst.
Folks were welcomed to Amherst Sandstone Village at 763 Milan Ave. to enjoy the historic attractions and celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.
Youngsters visited Santa, his elf and the elf’s puppy, and watched a puppet show before getting a look at model trains.
All ages engaged with history as many doors to the historic buildings were open for the public, such as Harris/Dute home, Live Oak Fire House, art gallery, octagonal barn and fuel station.
Free cookies and hot chocolate were provided for guests, as well as a separate bake sale and raffles to benefit the host of the event: the Amherst Historical Society.
Sandy Kaiser, a member of board of directors for the Amherst Historical Society, said the organization has many events in the village’s Grange Hall, while the Quigley Musuem holds
more historic artifacts.
Kaiser said the event has been one of the most cherished by the public for numerous
years.
Watching the children is her favorite part of Christmas in the Village, she said.
“They come in and they love the trains, they love Santa, they get free cookies and hot chocolate and it’s
just fun to watch the Christmas spirit on their faces,” she said.
Guests not only get to enjoy a day of history and Holiday fun, but they also are treated to free light displays throughout the village, beginning after Christmas in the Village until Dec. 31.
Jessica and Josh McCain of Oberlin have brought their children Juliana, 2, and Jack, 4, to the event for a few years.
The pair said they love the event, especially the Santa, trains and puppet show.
However, they enjoy coming to Amherst Sandstone Village throughout the year for summer events, also.
Jessica added she and Josh took their wedding photos in the village because of it’s beautiful features and historic look.
