A new Amherst business, J&B Country Down Home Store, also known as J&B Gunsmithing and More, opened its doors in early November.

Store owners Brent and Jessica Smith said they are offering several items which represent a taste of the South.

The store, 46130 Telegraph Road, has hunting supplies, ammunition, gun cleaning tools and more outdoorsy items like candles, blankets and decorations.

It also sells patriotic knickknacks and children’s trinkets.

The Smiths said they are planning to also specialize in selling firearms once they receive a Federal Firearms License.

They are hoping to have their license this December.

Jessica Smith, 26, said the store is a combination of her and husband’s interests.

“There’s really something here for anybody,” she said. “If we don’t have it, we can get anything.”

Brent Smith, 29, said customers can find some products at their business they cannot find or find enough of at other hunting stores in the northern

“Many accidents are caused by people being uneducated on how to operate firearms or what they can do. If I can save a life just by talking to a kid about gun safety, then by God, that’s what I’m going to do.”

part of the county.

The Smiths said their location is convenient for shoppers throughout the county who may need their products in the small store.

Brent Smith said he wants to share their interests, and to educate customers on safety.

“Many accidents are caused by people being uneducated on how to operate firearms or what they can do,” Brent Smith said. “If I can save a life just by talking to a kid about gun safety, then by God, that’s what I’m going to do.”

Brent Smith said he also looking into to teaching gun safety classes for children and others interested

to prevent accidents.

“It’s not the gun that (can cause an incident), it’s the person,” he said.

The pair mentioned their four children are educated in gun safety.

“I want them to understand what is safe, and what is not,” Brent Smith said.

Their children are Audrey and Abigail, 7, Jace, 4, and Remington, 3 months.

After the store’s beginning stages, Brent Smith said he hopes the business

can grow to more locations and provide service to more customers so his children can carry it on.
