Lorain County Metro Parks provided some indoor entertainment for children too young for school Dec. 10 with its holidaythemed craft activity.

“This is our Kiddie Craft Club: Elf Workshop, and it’s part of a series we do monthly,” said Aimee Potonic, senior naturalist with the Metro Parks. “This is something we allow kids to come in and do something kidfriendly to decorate the house or make a gift.”

Potonic said this month, Metro Parks kept with the holiday theme.

time of year,” she said. “Kids obviously love the holiday season, and you can only do this stuff once a year. They also include the nature theme as well.”

Potonic said she prepares a variety of crafts for the youngsters.

“You want something they will be able to do, but some might require some help from a parent,” she

said. “It makes for a good family experience and allows them to create something they will be able to do at home.

“I like to have a mix of basic crafts with those that require an additional step. I have one that allows them just to color. I also have some set where they can apply glitter, so it’s up to them to do what they want and take it as far as they like.”

Melissa McClain, an Olmsted Falls resident, was at the event with her daughter, Haesley, 2.

“Haesley just loves crafts,” McClain said. “She really gets into it.

“We have never been to this spot before, so I figured it would be a good time to come out and enjoy nature.”

Julie Steiner, of Avon, brought her son, Everett, 3, to the event.

“We just came to have some fun,” Steiner said. “We come here occasionally.

“They usually have some good programming and (Everett) really enjoys making this stuff.”
