A 39-year-old Elyria man is facing felony charges after he allegedly spit on and threatened a police officer Dec. 13.

Michael A. Meinke was charged with intimidation, harassment by inmate and domestic violence, all thirddegree felonies, assault, a first-degree misdemeanor, obstructing official official business and resisting arrest, both second-degree misdemeanors, according to an Elyria police report.

Officers responded for a possible assault at 8 p.m. in the 500 block of Turner Boulevard.

Police first saw a woman, who had bruising and red marks around her face and neck, the report said.

They also found the living room floor filled with shattered glass and broken furniture.

Officers learned Meinke had been drinking and allegedly assaulted the woman, the report said.

Police arrested Meinke, who resisted, according to the report. While taking Meinke to the cruiser, Meinke turned his head and spit in the face of an officer, the report said.

Officers then applied a hood to Meinke.

While placing the hood on his head, Meinke threatened to harm an officer, according to the report.

Meinke’s domestic violence charge was upgraded to a felony due to two prior domestic violence convictions, the report said.

Meinke, who is in the Lorain County Jail on a $22,500 bond, must appear at 2 p.m. Dec. 17 before Elyria Municipal Court Judge Gary C. Bennett.
