An Elyria native aims to help women balance five important areas of their lives so she publishes a magazine to connect with them and to generate inspiration.

D4G [ I AM] Destined for Greatness, an organization created by Elyria native Shonia Russelle, has released its 2018 – It’s a Lifestyle, It’s a Movement Holiday Magazine for the month of December.

This is Russelle’s second issue of the publication.

The issue titled: “Shades of Red,” is aimed to become an outlet for women who take the D4G F5 approach which are balancing the five areas of faith, family, fun, finances and future, Russelle said.

Much of the edition discusses tough topics such as loss, depression, menopause, marriage meets ministry, spiritual breakthrough, shopping disorders, abandonment, church planting and rejection.

Russelle, 47, is a business woman who says her magazine can provide women the opportunity to share their successes, strengths,

best practices and their approaches in tackling struggles while experiencing joy as they are overcoming daily battles.

“As women, we juggle so many balls and face so many challenges through various seasons of our lives,” she said.

The “Shades of Red” is more than a magazine, Russelle said.

It’s a journey with 15 writers who can help push women forward, she said.

The shades are the gifts, differences, wisdom, love and strengths each woman brings to the table, Russelle said.

“It’s important not to block out the various shades,” she said. “Different shades come into your life to partner with, not compete with, but to support, motivate, uplift and push you to the next shade or level.”

Also featured in the magazine is an article titled “3 Shades of Red.”

It features Russelle, now of Mason, Alicia Ramsey, of Indianapolis and Pamela Dickerson of Houston, who share their stories about growing up in Elyria, graduating from Elyria West High School and staying connected for 38 years.

Russelle said her main vision for her second issue was to touch people around this time of year when some get down or depressed.

“The holidays should

be upbeat, but it can also trigger memories of hard times or loss in some people’s lives,” she said. “The release of my second edition is a great time to share these stories and (to help make) 2019 one of the greatest times of their lives.”

Russelle said her first magazine issue was released in July 2018 as a source through D4G where people can relate to other stories and feel hope of overcoming whatever struggle they may be going through.

Russelle started D4G in 2015.

Since then, it has provided coaching, mentoring and motivational speaking for women seeking inspiration and motivation.

Russelle said her organization can apply to all women whether they are seeking to start something of their own, reach a promotion and create a business.

“My main focus is to empower women,” she said. “I want people to believe that a mistake you’ve made, you can be victorious in any way of life because you are destined for greatness.”
