A 40-year-old man faces charges of attempted murder for allegedly shooting a police officer in a standoff.

An Elyria man is facing felony charges after he allegedly broke into a house Dec. 19 and punched two of the occupants.

Matthew C. Kantura, 24, was charged with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, two counts of domestic violence, a fourthdegree felony, and resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor, according to an Elyria police report.

At 8 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Warren Avenue for an intoxicated man causing a disturbance.

Offices found Kantura being held down by his father who was bleeding from a fresh facial wound, according to the release.

Kantura arrived at another man’s house on High Street and requested a ride to the 200 block of Warren Avenue to retrieve a tool belt, the release said.

Kantura exited the vehicle and entered the residence when he spat and punched the resident, with whom he shares a child, in the face, the report said.

This prompted the other man to enter and restrain Kantura.

Before he could restrain Kantura, he punched the other man in the face.

The resident told officers she believed the tool belt was left there when Kantura broke in and stole her vehicle early that day, the report said.

Kantura, who is being held at Lorain County Jail on a $60,750 bond, must appear at 2 p.m. Dec. 27 before Elyria Municipal Court Judge Robert C. White.
