Man creates city themed clothing line
Local man starts city-themed clothing line
“You don’t need to be a millionaire to be a Vermilionaire,” according to one new clothing line that recently hit Vermilion.
Jonathan Hauck, cofounder of the VTown Insider app alongside Joseph McHenry, said the clothing line was created as part of the development of his lifestyle brand.
“(Vermilionaire) is just trying to make the app more than just an app,” Hauck said. “It’s really encompassing the whole community and being a lifestyle brand.”
Hauck said he was developing the clothing line around the same time that VTown Insider — an app that features local restaurants, shops and upcoming events in Vermilion — was coming off the ground.
So far, Vermilionaire merchandise consist of beanies, quarter-length and dry-fit shirts, hats, koozies, hoodies, stickers and scarves.
“It was something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” Hauck said. “I’ve been a part of Vermilion pretty much my whole life.”
Hauck said he designed the logo himself and had trademarked and patented it about four or five months ago.
He also works with local printers like Parmer Sportswear, 5645 Liberty Ave. in Vermilion, and Szabo Apparel Co., 5571 Liberty Ave. in Vermilion, for his orders.
“They both are completely different unique shops that can help me in different ways,” Hauck said.
The first run of merchandise was available in June and sold out quickly, he said.
Hauck said he is waiting on another order of hoodies, quarter-length shirts and beanies that will arrive Jan. 30.
“Everything is limited release, so I’ll do a run of something and then once it’s gone, I do something
completely different,” he said. “It has the attraction appeal, so it’s always a new
release.”
For instance, Hauck will sell his hats as 12 of a
kind, including Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and The Ohio State University colors, a tropical pattern, suede and more.
“It’s really just taken off,” he said.
For Vermilion’s upcoming Ice-A-Fair festival Feb. 2, Hauck will have a popup shop at Tiffany’s Flowers, 686 Main St. in Vermilion, alongside Simply Pat’s Hats & Things, of Paxton, Ill., Cupcake Cravings from Avon and Spoon Blossoms, owned by Vermilion local Maureen Pelagalli Lehman.
More information can be found on the VTown Insider Facebook page, website or app.
