Former Irish QB Wimbush to UCF

Former Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush says he is transferring to Central Florida, where he will be eligible to play next season as a graduate transfer.

Wimbush announced on social media Monday he would attend UCF next season. He started 16 games for the Fighting Irish over the last two seasons, including the first three of 2018. Wimbush lost his starting job to Ian Book, but helped the Irish to a 12-0 regular season.

Wimbush passed for 2,606 yards and 20 touchdowns and ran for 1,155 yards and 16 scores at Notre Dame.

UCF quarterback McKenzie Milton suffered a severe leg injury in the regular-season finale last year and his return to football is uncertain. Darriel Mack Jr. stepped in for Milton and led the Knights to a conference championship.

PLAYER DENIES RAPE ALLEGATION >> A former Utah State University football player denied charges that he sexually assaulted six women while he was in college.

Torrey Green testified Tuesday that he wished he had told women he dated in college he wasn’t interested in long-term relationships, but he insisted he did not assault them, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

He countered detailed testimony given earlier by the six women who reported they were assaulted under similar circumstances, many after meeting Green on a dating site.

“I wish I didn’t break their hearts. I could have done a better job of letting them know I didn’t want to be in a lasting relationship, and I’m sorry for that,” he said.

Prosecutors, though, have said Green was a predator who planned out his attacks in advance. They have also questioned tactics used by a police detective when he investigated one rape allegation.

BIG DONATION AFTER SYRACUSE BEATS DUKE>> A central New York businessman says he’s following through with a pledge to donate $150,000 to area Boys & Girls Clubs in the aftermath of Syracuse’s upset of No. 1 Duke.

Adam Weitsman, a well-known Orange fan and owner of recycling and shredding business, posted on Facebook before the game that he would make the donation if Syracuse won. The visiting Orange upset the Blue Devils, 9591, in overtime Monday.

Weitsman tells the Post-Standard of Syracuse that on the way to the game at Cameron Indoor Stadium he was reading about a Syracuse recruit who learned to play the game at the Boys & Girls Club in Rochester, New York.

Weitsman’s grandfather was a founding member of a Boys & Girls Club in New York. Also, the foundation of Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim and wife Juli supports branches of the organization.
