Lorain County Community College Ewing Physical Education and Fitness Center hosted an open house Jan. 16 allowing the community to visit.

“We have almost every equipment you could think of for exercise,” said Kathryn Orantek, facilities and wellness coordinator at LCCC, 1005 N. Abbe Road in Elyria. “We have the whole health and physical education department open for people to come and see what we have here.”

Orantek said the facility is one of the county’s little hidden secrets.

“A lot of people are unaware we have a facility like this here,” she said. “The college has a lot to offer and this facility is no different.

“It’s also kind of tucked away in the northeast part of the campus, so that may be part of it. It is, however, a fully-equipped facility people

should take advantage of.”

Orantek said the fitness center has several exercise machines.

“We have different strength machines that work well with exercises of all ages,” she said. “It prevents people from lifting in

the wrong areas and provides a safer workout.

“We have the cable cross machines people like to use and free weights.”

Orantek said the fitness center also has cardio workouts covered.

“We have different cardio machines for whatever you

prefer,” she said. “There are bikes, ellipticals and treadmills for use. We also have an indoor track for those who prefer to just run on a regular surface.”

Orantek said the fitness center has a leg up on other gyms in the area.

“The staff here are all in the field of exercise science,” she said. “You know the instructors, and trainers are aware of how to properly and safely workout.”

Orantek said the prices for membership vary based on age.

“It’s anywhere from $38 to $42 for three months if you’re 60 or older,” she said. “It will cost $85 for that same time period if you are under 60.

“We also have different pricing for a month and annual memberships as well. All information is available at https://www.lorainccc.edu/fitness-and-recreation, by calling 440-366-4028 or emailing me at korantek@lorainccc.edu.

“Also, not all students take advantage of this, but the facility is free if you are enrolled in classes.”
