Mercy welcomes breast cancer surgeon

- Staff report

Mercy Health Lorain has welcomed Dr. Mita Patel, a surgical breast oncologist, to the Mercy Health family of physicians.

Patel comes to Mercy Health from the Cleveland Clinic, where she has practiced since completing her Breast Surgery Oncology Fellowship in 2011, according to a news release.

Her expertise in the management of breast cancer and special interest in advanced surgical techniques will help develop a robust breast cancer program at Mercy Health Lorain and the Mercy Health Cancer Center, the release said.

“Helping patients navigate the process from diagnosis through treatment and to remission is a true reward for me,” Patel said in the release. “Each of these women are unique and their diagnosis should be treated that way as well.”

As Mercy Health continues to respond to the changing needs of the community, it remains committed to bringing high-quality, compassionate and expert care close to home so families don’t need to travel far to access the care they need, the release said.

Patel earned her medical degree from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y., as well as internship and residency at the North Shore – Long Island Jewish Health System in New York.

She is a fellow member of the American College of Surgeons and active committee member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Patel calls Cleveland home along with her husband and three children, the release said.

Patel will see patients at Mercy Health locations at 1480 Center Road, Suite B, in Avon; 41201 Schadden Road in Elyria; and 5054 Waterford Drive in Sheffield Village.
