Women’s group hosting workshop for entrepreneurs
The Elyria Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club Inc. will host an annual Entrepreneurs Workshop noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Amy Levin Conference and Learning Center, 1165 N. Ridge Road in Lorain. The topic of discussion is on “Business Killers - Avoiding the Six Mistakes that can Destroy Your Business and Future.” LaTaunya Conley, chair of the Elyria club’s Entrepreneurs Committee, said the workshops are to provide education, information and resources to help aspiring, small and existing business owners succeed. “Entrepreneurship is one of our core mandated programs as clubs within the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc.,” Conley said. The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc. was founded in 1935. Elyria’s chapter will celebrate its 44th anniversary this year. “As chair of the Elyria Club of (the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc.) Entrepreneurs Committee, I chose the Business Killers model because of its description,” Conley said, adding she attended a session similar to the upcoming workshop. Workshop attendees can assess an individual level of risk around each of the six mistakes. Conley said the six mistakes entrepreneurs claim are: I know what my business is worth; I’m too busy running the company; that’ll never happen to me; there’s plenty of time for that; my business is my retirement; and you can’t beat Uncle Sam. Educating yourself to avoid these mistakes can guide you toward success, she said. Program participants include Ohio Small Business Development Center of Elyria, Western & Southern Financial Group and Dollar Bank Elyria Branch. There also will be one-onone opportunities, Conley said. Information provided by the IRS will be available at the workshop such as IRS warning: Don’t be a victim of “ghost” tax return prepares; Identity Theft Guide for Business, Partnerships and Estate and Trusts; and Choosing a Paid Tax Return Preparer.
