Police investigate bullet holes
The Amherst Police Department is investigating an incident where officers found bullet holes in a residence Feb. 7. Officers responded at 7:39 p.m. to Maple Avenue near East Street for callers that stated as many as five gunshots were fired, according to an Amherst police report. A witness told police she saw a lowered vehicle, with a loud exhaust, leave the area east on Maple Avenue immediately after the shots were fired, but she did not get a good look at the make, model or color, the report said. Responding officers were unable to locate the vehicle. Following an investigation of the scene, officers located four bullet holes in the front porch windows and siding door of a house in the 400 block of Maple Avenue, the report said. After several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with anyone inside the house, officers forced entry into the residence in order to determine if anyone had been injured as a result of the gunfire. The interior and exterior of the home was searched by officers, who determined no one was inside at the time of the shooting, the report said. There are no suspects at this time. Anyone with information on the incident can call the Amherst Police Department at 440-988-2625.
