College gets $4.7M for computer upgrades
A state grant of almost $4.7 million for computer upgrades is coming to Lorain County Community College.
State Rep.
Joe Miller, D-Amherst, on Feb. 11 announced the money for an Internet network overhaul to enhance security, support for mobile devices and Internet connectivity, Miller said in a news release.
“Today’s decision is an important step toward ensuring Lorain County Community College is properly equipped to offer the best environment in which to work and learn,” he said. “A reliable, responsive network is essential for building a world-class educational facility.”
Additional state support is designated to outfit instructional labs for microelectronic manufacturing, or MEMS, and digital manufacturing line, or DML, with new educational equipment, the release said.
Both programs are focused on building skills for in-demand occupations in growing fields, according to LCCC.
“I am pleased to see the state invest in the future of LCCC and our community,” Miller said. “The training provided by these facilities will prepare graduates for high-quality job opportunities and strengthen our local economy.”
The funds allocated to LCCC originally were approved as part of last year’s capital budget and were given final approval Feb. 11 by the Ohio Controlling Board, which oversees state spending, the release said.
