This week’s batch of stellar student-athletes is in. See who made the cut and what they’ve accomplished in their sport that landed them in players of the week.
Maggie Williams AVON LAKE>>SWIMMING JUNIOR
In the pool: Williams was a Division I Northwest sectional champion at Cleveland State for the 200 free, successfully defending her title. She also qualified at large in the 500 free as well as the 200 medley and the 400 free relays.
Josh Bergin ROCKY RIVER>>WRESTLING SENIOR>>126 POUNDS
On the mat: Bergin went 4-0 with wins on Feb. 6 against Independence and St. Ignatius and then on Feb. 9 dominated the GLC tournament, pinning both opponents he wrestled in the first period. He became the first conference champion for Rocky River since 2016 and is on a 12- match winning streak.
Kaylee Judy ELYRIA CATHOLIC>>SWIMMING SENIOR
In the pool: Judy was first in the 100 backstroke and second in the 100 free at the Akron Division II sectional. She also qualified as a member of the third-place 200 medley relay and the winning 400
Mick Burnett ELYRIA>>WRESTLING JUNIOR>>132 POUNDS
On the mat: Burnett went 2-0 on Feb. 10 at the state duals quarterfinals and semifinals. Burnett scored a 16-0 technical fall over Wadsworth’s Logan Scandlon and followed with an 8-4 win over LaSalle’s Casey Wiles. Burnett is 14-0 in his state dual career and is ranked No. 1 in Ohio.
