Perfection!

Avon Lake junior scores perfect 36 on ACT

-

Avon Lake High School junior, Ryan Keller, 16, has scored a perfect score on the ACT. He is the second student at the high school this school year to earn a Perfect 36 on the ACT. Ryan joins Avon Lake High School junior Irwin Deng, who earned a Perfect 36 a few months ago. The national average ACT score for 2018 is 20.8, according to ACT officials. Ryan has attended the Avon Lake City Schools since kindergarten. To give a sense of how rare a Perfect 36 score on the ACT is for students, nationally less than 0.2 percent of Class of 2018 test takers earned a “perfect” composite score of 36 on the ACT— 3,741 out of 1,914,817. In addition to his dedication to his schoolwork which includes taking three Advanced Placement (AP) courses at Avon Lake High School (Physics, Government and Language), Ryan’s high school activities include: Marching Band (percussion), Pit Orchestra, Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Math Club, Cross Country and Track. His hobbies/interests outside the classroom include programming and writing music. He is a fan of classic rock and funk music. This is the first time Keller has taken the ACT test. He says he did not study or prep for the exam, other than getting a good night’s sleep before the test. “I went into the test thinking I will wait and see the score I get the first time, then maybe invest in prep books or other ways to prepare. We have a lot of smart kids at this school,” he said. The busy high school student also offered advice for other students. “Try everything,” he said. “All through my school years I tried lots of different activities and sports. It wasn’t until I outpaced everyone running in seventhgrade, that I realized cross country and track were my sports. But if I had not tried it at all back then, I would not have known I liked it or was pretty good.” Since he is only a junior, he still has some time to plan for his future after graduation in 2020. He would like to apply to the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is also strongly considering attending the University of Cincinnati as the school offers many things of interest including music and game design in the future. Ryan says he is currently undecided on a major, but would like to be involved in game design. Keller’s parents are William and Kerri Keller. His father works in business at Bendix Corporation. His mother works for NASA in computers.
