The Lorain County Fair will welcome back Foreigner this year as well as country musician Granger Smith.

The Lorain County Fair will welcome back Foreigner to the main stage this year as well as country musician Granger Smith.

Fair board member Brian Twining said Smith will take the mainstage at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 19, and tickets will cost between $30 and $35.

Foreigner will return to the fairgrounds at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 20, after their last attempt to play the venue five years ago was cut short due to weather.

“They started the show (five years ago), and there was some rainstorms in the area,” Twining said.

The wind and rain moved in during the show, and the band’s production company told fair organizers that the show was done, he said.

But the band members wanted to give their fans more of a show, Twining said.

Once the rain had cleared, organizers removed water from the stage and gave the band enough electricity to power their microphones.

“They came out and basically did an acoustic set,” Twining said.

“But it was the band themselves that actually said they wanted to go out and at least do something more.”

As the band left the stage that night, they told fair board members to be sure to have them back.

Tickets to see Foreigner will cost between $30 and $50.

Later in the week, the grandstand will be taken up by the Truck Pull at 7 p.m., Aug. 21; the NTPA Grand National Pull at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 23; the combine derby and truck derby at 7 p.m., Aug. 24; and the demolition derby at 4 p.m., Aug. 25. Ticket prices for those events have not been set yet.
