Should everyone’s past be under microscope?

-

We all fall short of God’s standards and His glory.

We are all sin bearers. We excuse our sins away, but stand in judgment of others, seeing the splinter in their eyes while ignoring the log in our own eyes.

God told Adam and Eve not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. They ate the fruit and sin was born.

I’m now referring to the many people who are demanding Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s resignation because of a blackface photo now surfacing from 35 year ago. Not three years ago, not five years ago, 35 years ago.

I’m not condoning this 1984 yearbook photo. I was numb and speechless upon seeing it. Should the printing company shoulder some of the blame, 35 years later, as well? Be forced to close? Not hardly.

Washington Post stated in The Morning Journal Editorial article (Feb. 16, 2019) that the reality is that there are factual issues to be addressed and that they better address them, if he can.

Will his answer ever be enough for all to accept? If not, will there be people standing on the sidelines and see to it that nearly three years remaining in office will be irreparably impaired?

The photo does not define who he is. He’s proven his commitment to public service and voted for, by the people.

Should we put everyone’s past under a microscope? Any volunteers?

Living is about learning (especially from our mistakes) and growing. We need to be a more forgiving people, as God has forgiven us. To err, is human, to forgive is divine.

He who is without sin, cast the 35-year-old stone. I think we need to live and be more like Christ than like Cain. M.D. Yohn Vermillion
