We want politicians to work together
It’s time to work together: February 5, President Donald Trump gave his impassioned State of the Union address.
It appears, after reading comments by Senator Sherrod Brown, Rep. Marcy Kaptur, Senator Rob Portman, Rep. Dave Joyce, Rep. Bob Gibbs, and Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, that depending on your political leaning, the speech was either considered Outstanding or Divisive.
Many of the points made by the president were valid and directed to the point.
Unfortunately, the call to work together on issues facing America seemed to fall on “deaf ears”.
We have a multitude of issues confronting our nation. One very important issue is illegal residence.
This one issue has taxed our social services beyond reason. Control of the border should be as directed by those experts not politicians.
Yes, we all recognize over stays entering by other means must also be addressed.
We want immigration, but by our system not theirs.
It is estimated that there are 500,000 illegal immigrations each year.
Can you imagine that’s the population addition equivalent of Sacramento, Kansas City, or Atlanta each year taxing our social services and it is estimated that 70 percent are from Central America.
It’s so sad that we are caught up in trying to disqualify the president rather than negotiating a future for the country.
Some just don’t get it that Trump won this election mostly due to the dissatisfaction with the lack of action by the existing politicians.
He made a point of “drain the swamp” during his campaign, and it sure is playing out that needs to be done!
We really want them to find common ground and work together! It’s time to get it done! Charles Holtzman Grafton
