Horizon Science Academy earns auditor of the state award

Horizon Science Academy of Lorain, in partnership with its Central Office Team from Concept Schools, recently earned the “Ohio Auditor of the State Award” from Ohio Auditor Keith Faber. The Auditor of State’s office presents awards to public entities that meet specific criteria during their financial audit, according to a news release. It is given in recognition of excellence in financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, also known as GAAP, and compliance with applicable laws for the fiscal year. This is a significant accomplishment considering how detailed and rigorous this process is in the state, the release said. Eligible entities that receive the award meet the following criteria of a “clean” audit report, according to the release. Some of these requirements are the entity must file timely financial reports with the Auditor of State’s office accordance with GAAP and the audit report cannot contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Uniform Guidance findings or questioned costs, the release said. Overall, the Horizon community is extremely proud of their central office team, said Ramazan Celep, school leadership and treasurer. “We’re so proud to receive this award,” said Horizon Principal Fatih Sumer. “It validates the attention to detail our school operates with on a daily basis, and is proof to taxpayers that we are responsible stewards with our finances. “I would also say that this is truly a team effort. It starts at the school level and moves toward our financial department at our Central Office, which is headed by our fantastic treasurer, Mr. Celep. “He and his team help to ensure support, guidelines and protocols for the financial well-being of our organization.” Sumer said Horizon’s sponsor, Buckeye Community Hope Foundation, plays a vital role by meeting with the school monthly to provide oversight on all school related functions. “We are thankful and proud to be recognized for this prestigious award,” he said.
