NO. 3 LAKEWOOD VS. NO. 2 OLMSTED FALLS

What: Division I Elyria District semifinal

When: March 7, 7 p.m.

Where: Elyria Catholic High School, 725 Gulf Road, Elyria

Records: Lakewood 16-6, Olmsted Falls 20-2

On deck: The winner advances to the district final where it will face the winner of No. 4 Avon-No. 1 Lorain.

For the record: These Southwestern Conference rivals split the season series, with Olmsted Falls winning the most recent game, 57-44, on Jan. 29. The Bulldogs went on to win the conference championship outright after sharing with the Rangers last season. They won the title for a reason, too. They boast one of the better shooting teams in the area and have mastered their pressure defense despite being undersized in most games. Lakewood has beat them once this season though, so the Rangers could steal a win here if Olmsted Falls isn’t at its best. McNees’ pick: Olmsted Falls

NO. 3 BAY VS. NO. 2 HOLY NAME

What: Division II North Ridgeville District semifinal When: March 7, 7 p.m.

Where: North Ridgeville High School, 34600 Bainbridge Road, North Ridgeville

Records: Bay 17-6, Holy Name 18-5

On deck: The winner advances to the district final where it will face the winner of No. 4 Fairview No. 1 Cleveland Central Catholic.

For the record: The Great Lakes Conference rivals met twice during the regular season with Holy Name winning each time, most recently, 89-74, on Feb. 19. Despite that lopsided score, the Rockets shouldn’t be counted out right away. Senior Erik Painter has had a stellar season and Bay’s offense can shoot the 3 as well as anybody. But the Rockets have been plagued by sluggish starts and nothing but coming out the gate strongly will work against the formidable Green Wave. McNees’ pick: Holy Name
