Members of the North Ridgeville community gathered March 8 at the North Ridgeville Academic Center, 34620 Bainbridge Road, to hear about the current state of the school district and where it’s headed. The State of the School’s Address for 2019 feathered Superintendent Roxann Ramsey-Caserio, presenting the address as her first year in charge of the district. “Student achievement is our priority,” Ramsey-Caserio said. “We have seen this with the new Daily 5 Workshop model at the elementary level. “It features teachers working with students in small groups to improve literacy skills. There is also the High-Interest Library program which has students reading more of what they want to read.

“We have also doubled the amount of advanced placement classes we offer at the high school level.” Ramsey-Caserio also touched on the importance of safety in the schools. “We have installed secure entry ways into North Ridgeville High School and Liberty Elementary,” she said. “You now have to stop and be checked in when entering those buildings. “We have also been in collaboration with North Ridgeville first responders for what to do in an active intruder situation. We also had swing arm cameras installed in buses to cite those who don’t stop for school buses.” Ramsey-Caserio said the district also added an Emotional Support Room at North Ridgeville Academic Center. “It’s a space students feel safe and secure in,” she said. “It’s a distraction free area. It’s also an area where behavioral students can receive the benefit of one-on-one teaching.” Ramsey-Caserio also said the district is experiencing growth. “The district is growing ... fast,” she said. “We added 180 students this year and are not stopping. The state said we are the number one fastest growing district in Northeast Ohio. “We are working with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission to work on options going forward. Due to our size, the state will now help with 24 percent of all future building projects. “The elementary and high school may need be to be addressed with the continued growth.”
