Prison guards select Correction Officer of the Year

Emmanuel Obazuaye is the 2019 Correction Officer of the Year for the Lorain Correctional Institution in Grafton, according to a March 14 news release from Warden Kimberly Clipper. The award is presented to the correction officer who best exemplifies the mission of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, as well as representing the Lorain Correctional Institution in a positive and professional manner, the release said. Obazuaye was selected by a panel of his peers for his leadership, confidence, dedication and team work, it said. He’s always positive and optimistic and displays qualities that motivate and has an infectious can do attitude, the release said. Obazuaye always displays a professional attitude and appearance and accomplishes his daily tasks effectively and thoroughly, Clipper said. “Officer Obazuaye began his correction career at LorCI in 2016, and being a newer officer, quickly proved that he possessed leadership skills and confidence,” she said. “His overall commitment, dedication and sense of teamwork has made him stand out among his peers, and I am confident that he will serve LorCI with the upmost pride as our 2019 Officer of the Year. “He is an awesome reflection of the exceptional staff we have here at LorCI.” Each year, a statewide Correction Officer of the Year is selected for the Ronald C. Marshall Award from 25 candidates from facilities statewide. On May 3, the Correction Officer of the Year will receive the award, according to the release. The selection of the Marshall Award concludes the annual celebration of Correction Employee Week, the release said.
