Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Arts Center hosted its fourth annual “Spotlight on Stocker” on July 29 to preview its lineup of performances for the 2019-20 season.

“This open house gives everyone a chance to see that the best in arts entertainment are close to home at LCCC,” said Stocker Arts Center Director Janet Herman Barlow.

“Sharing Stories” was free and open to the public where guests had the opportunity to take a behind the scenes tour of the Hoke Theater. In addition there were a number of arts activities and displays with the chance to get creative in making jewelry and bookmarks.

“This is the best time to enjoy all that the Stocker Center has to offer residents of Lorain County,” Herman Barlow said.

A tour of the theater took guests right onto to the stage and into the scene and the costume workshops in giving people a peek into the magic behind Stocker’s productions.

Digital Media Coordinator Ron Jantz was pleased with the turnout, underscoring the community support.

“We’re expecting over 200 people here tonight in a three-hour time period. It’s just yet another example of the great commitment to the arts here in Lorain County, specifically at your Stocker Arts Center at Lorain County Community College,” Jantz said.

In a letter to the community, LCCC President Marcia J. Ballinger welcomed the Stocker Arts Center’s 39th season in continuing to build on LCCC’s creative spirit.

“We know that exposure to the arts broadens the creative process – in traditionally artistic realms, in the classroom and even in the workplace. When the arts are well supported and engrained in a community’s culture, quality of life is enhanced and the local economy thrives,” Ballinger wrote.

The new season will welcome Sirius XM Broadway Host Seth Redetsky performing his one-man play “Rhapsody in Seth” in addition to welcoming back Neil Berg performing “50 Years of Rock and Roll, Part 2”along with family event, “The Rainbow Fish” from the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia.

Other performances include the Mardi Gras concert with Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience, “Sweeney Todd” presented by Avon Lake’s TrueNorth Cultural Arts along with a studio sessions music series and a fall film series.
