An Elyria man was arrested after allegedly fleeing from police July 29 and barricading himself in an occupied residence.

Daquan M. Johnson, 24, was charged with obstructing official business, a fifth-degree felony, resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor, failure to comply and driving under suspension, both firstdegree misdemeanors, according to an Elyria police report.

The incident occurred at 8:24 p.m. when officers patrolling the 400 block of 14th Street noticed Johnson, who’s wanted through Ohio Adult Parole and has a suspended driver’s license, get into a Chevrolet SUV and drive away, the report said.

Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, but Johnson drove into the back yard of 405 14th St.

Johnson exited the vehicle, ran into the residence through the front door and locked it behind him, the report said.

Additional police units arrived to assist, and a neighboring house was evacuated.

Officers learned that other people were in the residence and were able to call one of the men inside to provide him with information on how to facilitate Johnson’s peaceful surrender to authorities, according to the report.

Shortly after speaking to the man, officers received a call from Johnson who told them his mother was getting married and he was not going back to jail.

He also said he was not going to give up and that law enforcement would have to kill him, the report said.

Officers eventually negotiated Johnson out of the house.

Johnson taunted officers telling them to kill him, the report said.

Police were able to get the other residents out safely.

Johnson, who is in the Lorain County Jail on a $4,480 bond, must appear at 11 a.m., Aug. 1, in Elyria Municipal Court.
