Sanchez leads combined no-hitter for Astros

Aaron Sanchez looked like a reinvented pitcher in his Houston debut, throwing six stellar innings to start the Astros on a combined no-hitter Aug. 3 in a 9-0 victory over the Mariners.

Sanchez was an All-Star in 2016 and led the American League in ERA, but he’s struggled this season and had lost 13 straight decisions to lead the majors with 14 losses. But three days after he was acquired from Toronto at the trade deadline, the 27-year-old right-hander teamed with Will Harris, Joe Biagini and Chris Devenski to shut down the Mariners..

ENCARNACIO­N HURT >> Edwin Encarnació­n joined the Yankees’ lengthy injured list, breaking his right wrist when hit by a pitch from Boston reliever Josh Smith in the eighth inning of a doublehead­er opener Aug. 3. Encarnació­n, the Yankees designated hitter, stayed in the game and the team said initial X-rays were negative. He then went for a CT scan, which revealed the fracture.

GREEN, WARRIORS HAVE DEAL >> Draymond Green and the Warriors have agreed on the terms of a four-year extension worth nearly $100 million, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal was unsigned, though that was expected to be completed imminently.

ESPN first reported the agreement, citing Green’s agent, Rich Paul.

Green’s new deal will start with the 2020-21 season, so he is under contract through 2023-24.

SAINTS MOVES >> The Saints are giving veteran running back Jacquizz Rodgers a chance to make his third different team in the NFC South Division. The 29-year-old Rodgers, who practiced with New Orleans on Aug. 3 for the first time, has been added to the roster in place of former Redskins and Tulane running back Rob Kelley.

ARREST IN SHOOTING DEATH OF PLAYER >> Police in Oregon have arrested a woman following the shooting death of a Portland State University basketball player.

Police in Portland say 30-year-old Tamena Strickland was taken into custody late Aug. 2 following the shooting death of 22-yearold Deante Strickland.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reported that Deante Strickland’s uncle, Damian Strickland, said Tamena Strickland is Deante Strickland’s sister.

Portland police didn’t immediatel­y respond to inquiries from The AP.

Tamena Strickland is being held in the Multnomah County Detention Center without bail on suspicion of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
