The 10th annual Journal Jog took place on Aug. 4 at Black River Landing in Lorain, and last year’s winner crossed the finish line first again this year.

Mark Grogan, 30, of Bay Village competed against 68 other runners and took first place overall in the men’s division of the Journal Jog with a time of 15:16.

“It feels good,” Grogan said. “I ran a lot faster than last year, which was my goal, and I smashed that, so it really does feel good.”

This is Grogan’s third Journal Jog win and his second in a row. His first win came in 2016.

“It’s not easy, I had a guy right on my tail the whole time this year,” Grogan said. “It feels good to be able to come out here and win it again.”

It was also a family affair for Grogan, as his wife Malory won the women’s division in her first Journal Jog race.

Grogan said his familiarity with the course contributed to his repeat victory.

“We always get a wind in one direction,” Grogan said. “This time it was headwind on the way out so coming back was a little easier. Temperature wise, it wasn’t as hot as it has been and it is a really beautiful day. Nice views over the lake help you get through that middle mile.”
