A Lorain man pleaded guilty for his part in the October murder of 20-year-old Zachary Mason.

Lance B. Cheers, 29, admitted his guilt Aug. 7 to an amended indictment of two counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of aggravated robbery and a single count of tampering with evidence before Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James L. Miraldi.

Cheers’ sentencing has yet to be scheduled, according to court officials.

Investigators said Cheers along with Keeon Green Jr., 19, of Elyria, and Larry E. Hamilton Jr., 24, of Lorain, lured Mason to an apartment complex in Elyria with the prospect of them purchasing marijuana from him.

Green and Mason allegedly were in contact via Facebook in the time preceding the shooting death.

Shortly after Mason arrived at the apartment complex, witnesses described hearing multiple gunshots and seeing Mason flee into an adjacent parking lot, according to warrants filed with the court.

He collapsed between two vehicles in the lot and died later in the hospital.

Both Green and Hamilton are facing two counts of murder, two counts of aggravated robbery and a single count of tampering with evidence in connection to the Oct. 1 killing.

Hamilton is in the Lorain County Jail on $650,000 bond and Green on a $1 million bond.
