Crushers rout Grizzlies with big series ahead

Lake Erie travels to second-place Schaumburg to face Boomers

The Lake Erie Crushers had an explosive offensive game, which helped them defeat the Gateway Grizzlies, 12-5, in the series finale on Aug. 15.

The Crushers started scoring in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to right field by right fielder Logan Farrar to make it 1-0.

The game was tied at 1-1 in the fourth inning when Crushers catcher Bryan De La Rosa hit a two-run double to make it 3-1.

Then, Steven Kraft hit a single to bring another run home to make it 4-1.

The Crushers added to their total in the sixth inning on a wild pitch. Then, shortstop Emmanuel Marrero hit a tworun double to make it 7-1. They added another run on an error to increase their lead to 8-1.

The Grizzlies scored again in the top of the seventh thanks to a double by third basemen Wesley Jones to make it 8-2. The Grizzlies would threaten to score again in the inning, but could not bring runners home from second and third.

The offensive explosion continued for the Crushers.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Crushers added another run on a wild pitch to make it 9-2. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Kraft hit a bases-clearing double to make it, 11-2. Third basemen Broddy Wofford would also bring in another

run thanks to a single to make it, 12-2.

Gateway added three runs in the top of the ninth inning to make the final margin.

Crushers starting pitcher Sean Johnson went seven innings, gave up two runs on five hits and had four strikeouts and three walks. He threw 93 pitches.

The Crushers took three out of four in the series. The Crushers will go on the road now for the weekend to take on the Schaumburg Boomers.
