Board discusses litigation regarding treasurer
The Lorain City Schools Board of Education continued discussions regarding ongoing litigation involving the status of Treasurer Joshua Hill.
In a special meeting on Aug. 22, the Board met for approximately one hour and 20 minutes in executive session along with the members of the City of
Lorain Law Department concerning litigation.
The issue stems from an Aug. 4 announcement by South Euclid Lyndhurst School District announcing Hill’s hiring, prompting legal action from the board.
The board filed a lawsuit on Aug. 15 in Lorain County Common Pleas Court preventing Lorain City Schools CEO David Hardy Jr. and South Euclid-Lyndhurst Schools from interfering with the contractual relationship between the district and Hill.
South Euclid Lyndhurst Board of Education filed their own lawsuit against the Lorain City School Board on Aug. 21 in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court seeking monetary damages in excess of $25,000.
Board member Tim Williams said he could not comment.
“It’s a pending legal matter. I would rather not say anything at all,” he said.
Teacher vacancies filled
In a news release from Lorain City Schools, the district announced they have filled 100 percent of teacher vacancies.
Over the summer they reported 54 teaching positions that were open to external candidates.
Chief People Officer Jaqueline Younker said she was pleased with how the process played out.
“This year we decentralized the way in which we staffed our buildings by involving building administrators and Lorain teachers in the interview and selection process.”
