Woman arrested, accused of leading police on chase

- Staff report

An Elyria woman was arrested after allegedly leading police on a car chase, abandoning the moving vehicle and fleeing on foot Aug. 28.

Amanda G. Combs, 37, was charged with failure to comply with an officer, a fourth-degree felony, failure to reinstate, a fist-degree misdemeanor, reckless operation and expired plates, both minor misdemeanors, according to an Elyria police report.

Combs also had a warrant on theft, a first-degree misdemeanor.

This incident began at 7:33 a.m. when an officer, who was traveling behind Combs north on

Abbe Road, noticed her maroon 2001 Nissan sedan had expired plates, the report said.

Combs turned into the parking lot at Drug Mart, 500 N. Abbe Road, and the officer attempted to make a traffic stop.

But Combs increased her speed and left the parking lot heading west on Hilliard Road, according to the report.

The Nissan veered off the left side of the road in the 500 block of Hilliard, struck sidewalk and landed near a ditch, the report said.

Combs got out of the vehicle and ran through some yards on foot.

This left the vehicle unattended which ended up back on Hilliard before it eventually stopped.

Combs was later caught by officers in the 900 block of North Pasadena Avenue.

She told officers she was running because she knew she had several outstanding warrants, the report said.

Combs was treated for minor injuries at UH Elyria, and later to the Lorain County Jail, where she is being held on a $51,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear at 2 p.m., Sept. 5, before Elyria Municipal Court Judge Robert C. White.
