From the release: (Composed) of some of the finest classically trained singers in the United States, the mission of the American Spiritual Ensemble is to keep the American Negro spiritual alive. Since its inception by Dr. Everett McCorvey in 1995, the vocalists have thrilled audiences around the world with their dynamic repertoire ranging from spirituals to classical to jazz and Broadway numbers highlighting the Black experience. The American Spiritual Ensemble is unique in that over 90% of the members are accomplished soloists who have sung in theaters and opera houses worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and abroad in Italy, Germany, Britain, Scotland, Spain and Japan. The resulting sound of this group is something that choral groups with two or three featured soloists cannot duplicate. The American Spiritual Ensemble has presented diverse concerts throughout the United States, Europe and South America and has toured Spain twelve times presenting more than 100 concerts.
BALLET FOLCLÓRICO NACIONAL DE MÉXICO DE SILVIA LOZANO | 7:30 P.M. FEB. 19 FROM THE RELEASE:
The Ballet Folclórico Nacional De Mexico has taken on the task of spreading, preserving and promoting the culture of Mexico, both at home and abroad. With an artistic career dating to 1960, Ballet Folclórico reflects the work of Mexico’s leading researchers and practitioners of folklore, dance, music, and traditional costumes of the different regions of Mexico. The company has performed in over 50 countries and on five continents, receiving numerous awards and prizes, as well as being designated an Ambassador of Mexican Culture. In addition to its international tours, the Ballet Folclórico Nacional De Mexico has performed in traditional theater settings, as well as in stadiums, arenas, and parks. They have performed for audiences that have included kings, princesses, presidents, prime ministers, and ambassadors from all around the world and now they bring their colorful costumes, wonderful musicians and fantastic dances to Stocker Arts Center to perform for you.
FAREWELL ANGELINA IN CONCERT | 7:30 P.M. MAY 6
From the release: Named after a Bob Dylan song, Farewell Angelina is an all-female country band with four powerhouse vocalists who are also award-winning songwriters and multiinstrumentalists. Longtime friends, Nicole Witt, Andrea Young, Lisa Torres & Ashley Gearing met pursuing their dreams in Nashville. Each respected and admired one another while they were building successful solo careers, touring and recording with top artists, and writing songs for some of country music’s biggest hitmakers. When they heard the magic of their voices together for the first time, they couldn’t wait to take their show on the road. Major opportunities soon followed including singing the National Anthem for Thursday Night Football, The Unbridled Eve Gala for the Kentucky Derby, and the ACM All-Star Jam. Farewell Angelina were named by Rolling Stone as one of the “10 New Country Artists You Need To Know.” They are currently headlining their own tour to packed crowds across the US.
The Performing Artist Series single tickets are $40 for orchestra and $33 for mezzanine seats. Tickets are $10 for active duty military members, as well as youth 18 and under and LCCC students with valid IDs. Subscriptions are now on sale now for three-, four-, five- and six-show packages.
