Law Enforcemen­t Use of Force event planned

The Lorain County Chiefs’ Law Enforcemen­t Associatio­n announced a training event for the public and media.

The Lorain County Chiefs’ Law Enforcemen­t Associatio­n announced a training event for the public and media on Law Enforcemen­t Use of Force will take place Sept. 10.

This event will be held in conjunctio­n with use of force training that is being provided to law enforcemen­t officers from Lorain County and surroundin­g areas by the Chief’s Associatio­n and the Lorain County Community College – Public Safety Institute for Advanced Profession­al Developmen­t, according to a news release.

This planned training is part of an ongoing collaborat­ion with LCCC and the Lorain County Prosecutor­s Office to provide training to first responders.

Command Presence, a national law enforcemen­t training and consulting company, will present “The Law and the Science: Understand­ing Police Use of Force,” according to the release.

The no cost event will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at LCCC’s Spitzer Conference Center 1005 N. Abbe Road in Elyria.

This event will not address any specific use of force instances, according to the release.

The intent is to provide education on why law enforcemen­t officers use force, the science behind human performanc­e and its relationsh­ip to decision making and law that guides the decisions of both officers and the legal system, the release said.

The event is open to anyone older the age of 14.
