The Browns returned to practice Oct. 21 after their bye with an unexpected bonus; the NFL allowed Kareem Hunt to be part of the workout.

Hunt in August was suspended by the NFL for the first eight games of the regular season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy when video surfaced of him shoving and kicking a woman in a downtown Cleveland hotel in February of 2018. The former Willoughby South High School star running back played for the Kansas City Chiefs at the time.

Hunt still cannot play until Nov. 10 when the Browns host the Buffalo Bills in their ninth game. The league originally ordered Hunt could have no contact with the Browns during his suspension, but decided to let him resume practicing two weeks earlier than first mandated. Still, the NFL relenting by letting Hunt return to

practice early means the 5-foot-11, 216-pound back should be in game-shape

by the time the Browns play Buffalo.

“It was really cool (having Hunt back at practice),” left guard Joel Bitonio said. “I know he’s tried to work his tail off to be back and be ready for us. He did most of the scout team for us today. He had some good runs and good cuts. It was really good to see him out there and working.”

Quarterback Baker Mayfield is also back at practice. He suffered a hip injury in the game with the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 13 and rested during practice last week.

Hunt, a third-round draft choice by the Chiefs in 2017, led the league with 1,327 rushing yards as a rookie. He had 824 rushing yards in the first 11 games of 2018 before he was released by Chiefs the same day the video surfaced.

Browns general manager John Dorsey signed Hunt in February. Dorsey was general manager of the Chiefs when Kansas City drafted Hunt from the University of Toledo with the 86th overall pick two years ago.
