Crop Comments: If you read the Crop last week you probably saw this coming, the top nine remain the same as every team continued to win. But change is on the horizon as head to head matchups are on the way. Olmsted Falls takes on Avon Lake on Jan. 18, and top ranked Elyria Catholic gets Bay on Jan. 20. So the next Crop could look different. … Firelands again continues to run through the Lorain County League, picking up another league win. Wellington re-enters the Crop this week after a few wins, as Jalen Gibbs once again broke her own record for rebounds in a game with 24 against Clearview. … Avon defeated North Ridgeville, as did Amherst, dropping the Rangers from the Crop while finally shedding some light on the middle tier of the SWC. … Lorain continues to impress without its top scorer from last season. Several Titans, including Lutheran West transfer Destiny Evans, have Lorain competing for a Lake Erie League title with a big win over Warrensville Heights last week. … Columbia continues to be on the outside looking in through no fault of its own. The Raiders defeated Oberlin on Jan. 15, led by one of the area’s top scorers Allyson Ross and Averey Lavinder. They can still make a push for the LC8 title with games against Firelands and Wellington still on the schedule.
