Ohio Republican Congressman Jim Jordan (OH-4) reiterated his support of President Donald Trump on Jan. 17 as a Senate Impeachment trial looms.

Speaking at a public forum at Your Deli in Amherst, Jordan, whose district includes Oberlin, called the upcoming impeachment trial a “formality.”

He said in spite of daily attacks from the left and mainstream media, the recent passage of the USMCA (United States-MexicoCanada Agreement) trade agreements shows Trump is committed to getting things done for the American people.

“But all the facts are on the president’s side, and I think he’s going to be just fine,” Jordan said. “Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler will be doing their song and dance in the Senate, but I’m confident in the White House ... and they’ll do a great job defending the president.”

He said with the Senate impeachment trial set to begin Jan. 21, he will defend Trump in any way possible and disagree with the narrative presented by Democrats.

“This whole process started on Sept. 24,” Jordan said. “And close enough he was going to do it the

next day, the call transcript came out and we’ve been at it now for four months, plus four facts that never change.

“We got the transcript. There’s no quid pro quo in the transcript. You read through it and it’s fine. Both individuals on the call said there was no pressure, no pushing, nothing wrong with the call.”

Jordan repeated his argument that Ukrainian officials have stated there was no pressure, and there could not have been a quid pro quo since they were unaware security assistance money was on the line at the time and because the funding was released after 55 days.

“And the reason they had to have such an unfair process when they did it is because the facts are on the president’s side,” he said. “Think about it, if you’ve got a good case, you don’t need to rig the game.

“You can allow the other side to have witnesses. You can allow the president to come in and cross-examine witnesses. You can allow his attorneys to be present.

“But none of that was allowed to happen because their case was so weak that they had to rig the system and let Adam Schiff control it all.”

Speaking on the USMCA, Jordan said the agreement is a step in the right direction.

“Frankly, just look at the numbers,” he said. “Taxes cut, regulations reduced, economy growing at an unbelievable rate, the lowest unemployment in 50 years, 29,000 on the stock market just a couple of days ago.”

The congressman said he was unsure what role, if any, he would have in the president’s defense, but was ready to support him.

Jordan also spoke positively of the Republican chances to retake the U.S. House of Representatives in this year’s election.
