Huron County Public Health says it can be a little too easy to decide to stay inside under blankets watching your favorite TV show on dark winter days.

However, colder weather doesn’t mean you have to turn into a couch potato.

Continuing to move during the winter months helps you feel more energetic during darker days and can even help you fight off the winter blues.

In a news release, Huron County Public Health reminds residents that there are many indoor options when it comes to staying active throughout the winter months and provides the following tips:

• Consider walking in large indoor spaces such as malls.

• Add an exercise to any daily activity such as doing squats while microwaving food or standing on one foot while brushing your teeth.

• While watching TV at home, pick a different exercise to do during each commercial break.

• Check the manual and

FAQ’s of your at home exercise machine to see how else you can utilize the equipment in a way you haven’t before.

• Take the stairs. You most likely have access to stairs whether it’s at your home, apartment building, or work. Stair climbing is an awesome workout that will keep your heart rate up.

• Stream your workout. There are many free options online that include everything from yoga to body weight and dance exercises.

• If you’re able to leave the house, consider joining a gym or trying a new fitness class.

There are typically great membership deals around the new year, according to the release.

Doing a class or personal training session allows you to experience someone else’s form of fitness.
