Kareem Hunt told Rocky River police he would have failed a drug test when he was stopped for speeding.

Kareem Hunt told Rocky River police he would have failed a drug test when he was questioned after being stopped for speeding on Interstate 90 on Jan. 21.

Police found a small amount of marijuana and a container of vodka with the seal broken in a backpack on the backseat of the Browns running back’s car. Hunt was ticketed for driving 77 mph in a 60 MPH zone. He was not ticketed for marijuana possession or the vodka.

Hunt was put in the back of the police cruiser. Audio from the police video of the arrest captures Hunt pleading with the police officer, telling him he was in a hurry to catch a flight.

“I’ve been through a lot, officer. I’ve been through a lot,” Hunt is heard saying.

“I know you have,” the officer said.

Hunt, a third-round draft choice by the Chiefs in 2017, led the NFL in rushing with 1,327 yards as a rookie. He shoved and kicked a woman in a downtown Cleveland hotel in February of 2018. Video of the incident surfaced on Nov. 30 of 2018. The Chiefs cut him the same day.

Former Browns general manager John Dorsey, who drafted

Hunt in Kansas City, signed the former South High star in February 2019 to play for Cleveland.

Hunt was suspended for the first eight games of 2019 as punishment for shoving and kicking the woman in violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

The officer walked back to Hunt’s car after their initial conversation and discovered the marijuana and vodka. The officer asked what would happen if he wrote Hunt “a ticket for weed.”

“I would be tested right away,” Hunt said.

“You know what happened

to me,” Hunt said. “I should be playing for a fricking Super Bowl. It hurts my soul. You don’t even understand. I’ve been fighting a lot of (stuff) lately. It still hurts me to this day.

“I love Cleveland, love the Browns, but you don’t understand. I’m just the worst person in the world sometimes and I don’t even do nothin’. I try to help everybody.”

The Chiefs and 49ers will

meet in the Super Bowl on Feb. 2 in Miami.

Hunt informed the officer he has never failed a drug test in the NFL, but when the policeman asked if he would fail one and that moment, Hunt said he would have.

“I mean, yes, sir,” Hunt said, not belligerently. “It’s the offseason. Sorry I was having a good time.”

The Browns “are aware of the situation and gathering more information” according

to a team spokesman.

Hunt is a restricted free agent. The Browns can resign him before the 2020 league year begins on March 18. They can also tender him an offer that would give the Browns a right of first refusal or be compensated with a draft pick by a team signing Hunt. They could also do nothing, which would make Hunt an unrestricted free agent after March 18.
