Mercy Health-Lorain Hospital welcomed its new Gastroenterology Center and Practice on Feb. 10 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new center will enhance existing services already at the Lorain campus, 3700 Kolbe Road, with new state-of-the-art technology to help identify and treat patients for all their gastroenterology needs, including diseases of the liver.

This technology has never been seen in Lorain County, Mercy Health officials said.

The new space will house 10 new examination rooms as well as three new procedure rooms, all allowing for further access to expert, high-quality, compassionate care without the drive, delivering on the promise of enhancing access and making health care easier, they said.

Ed Oley, market president of Mercy Health-Lorain, said the new center represents Mercy’s commitment to expanding services locally, with close to

$20 million in investments over the past two years and six months.

“This center will fulfill a growing demand for services and allow patients to access procedures and physician specialists in a fresh, modern and advanced setting,” Oley said. “As you tour this facility, you will see the extraordinary attention to detail to ensure efficiency for procedures and most importantly, an amazing experience for our patients.

“This was accomplished by having tremendous physician and staff participation in the design and flow the facility. It was truly designed by clinicians, for clinicians.”

Gastroenterologist Dr. Alok Jain said the center is much more than Mercy Lorain’s gastroenterology team could have ever dreamed of, and will enable them to carry out their vision of providing the best

patient care around.

The new facility will allow for advanced endoscopies, endoscopic ultrasounds, which allow for earlier detection of pancreatic cancer and the fibroscan ultrasound for advanced liver

care, Jain said.

The idea for the upgrade came two years ago in providing an enhanced institute with advanced inpatient and outpatient care with lots of space and allowing them the flexibility

to grow and expand as their needs evolve, he said.

“I couldn’t be at a better place,” Jain said. “And I think for our patients, they couldn’t be at a better place for getting their conditions taken care of.”
