Let’s Get Real receives $10,000 donation from group
Let’s Get Real, an organization dedicated to providing information and resources to families for those who are recovering from addiction, received a $10,000 donation Feb. 10 from the 100 Women Who Care About Lorain County.
Over nine years, 100 Women Who Care About Lorain County has raised over $370,000 for charities and nonprofit organizations in Lorain County.
Nancy Sullivan, a cofounder of the group, said the money the organization has donated has been put right back into the community.
“Every penny has stayed in Lorain County,” Sullivan said. “If there are any overhead costs, we cover them.”
The group gets together four times a year to make a $100 donation per member to a charity that’s voted on by all members.
“We have nominations from members and they have to meet the criteria,” Sullivan said. “Three nonprofit organizations will be chosen from those nominated and voted on to choose one.
“The organizations [the top three nonprofits] then attend a voting meeting and make a presentation to members of the group and then they vote.”
Kim Eberle, executive director of Let’s Get Real, said the donation is going to help community people who face drug addiction.
“I intend to use it [the donation] for community independent services,” Eberle said. “There are people who aren’t addicted to opioids, but need help with other forms of addiction like heroine or meth.”
Since Let’s Get Real’s move into a larger space last year, the need for its services has tripled, she said.
“We provide services that other facilities don’t have,” Eberle. “We follow through with our clients and offer peer supporting.”
Sullivan said she thinks people often forget they can make a difference.
“We have around 300 members,” she said. “That can make a big difference. Look at the donations we’re able to do.”
